Bearded tooth can be seen on a wide variety of tree species.
It was used as a tonic in traditional Chinese medicine to improve overall health and longevity. Buddhist monks were said to use this mushrooms powder as a tea to boost their brain strength and concentration during meditation.

In China, this fungus is known as Hou Tou Gu (Monkey Head Mushroom),
while in Japan, it is known as Yamabushitake.

Appearance: The bearded tooth has a short stalk. The basic shape of its fruiting body is roundish, oval, or heart-shaped and the outside of the fruiting body is covered with innumerable hanging spines, spikes, or bristles.
When it's young, it is pearly white. Older specimens change color from top to bottom to yellowish-brown. The mushroom can reach a size of up to 30 centimeters and produces almost colorless spores.
Habitant: In forests with high humidity; exclusively on deciduous trees.
